4 Tips to Get Your Invisalign Treatment Back on Track

You’ve been wearing Invisalign for a while now, and it’s time to move to the next set of trays. When you attempt to put on the new clear aligners, your teeth don’t seem to line up correctly. Wearing Invisalign requires a significant time commitment, and treatment can get off track for a number of reasons. If your Invisalign treatment isn’t progressing the way you hoped, remember that your dentist is just as committed as you are to giving you the smile of your dreams. When treatment veers off course, here are 4 tips to help you get things back on track.

Use Invisalign Chewies

Invisalign chewies are flexible, soft rolls of material that can correct issues with the aligners not “tracking” your teeth properly. After putting your aligners in, chew on them for a few minutes to press your aligners over your teeth and into the correct position. This is particularly helpful if you’ve recently switched to a new set of aligners which will likely be much tighter.

Wear Your Aligners Often Enough

If you have gaps between your aligners and teeth, you may not be wearing your aligners enough. Invisalign patients should wear their aligners at least 20 hours per day, but 22+ hours is preferable. Not sticking to the schedule can slow down your treatment and will likely keep your new aligners from tracking properly. This can cause your teeth not to move as quickly as they’re supposed to.

Consider Backtracking

When Invisalign treatment goes off track, speak with your dentist about “backtracking” so they can swap out your current aligners for a previous set. This will move your teeth to the correct position so you can move on to the next set of aligners. It may feel like a bit of a setback, but it will help you continue to progress with your Invisalign treatment and move towards a more beautiful smile.

Ask About Treatment Revisions

Sometimes, your teeth just don’t move quickly enough for your Invisalign treatment plan. In this case, you should schedule an appointment with your dentist for them to assess your mouth and revise your treatment accordingly. This may involve issuing new aligners or using Invisalign buttons or attachments to move your teeth into the proper position.

If you run into issues with the progression of your Invisalign treatment, there are several ways to get things back on track. The journey to straight teeth is a marathon, not a sprint. A few adjustments may be necessary here or there, but in the end, you’ll finally have the smile you’ve always dreamed of!
