What Are the Benefits of Invisalign?

Many adults and older teens out there prefer clear aligners over traditional metal braces because they don’t need to show off brackets and wires for who knows how much time. However, there are all sorts of other benefits of Invisalign other than how it looks when you smile. Many advantages have nothing to do with appearance at all. Continue reading to learn more about the many benefits of Invisalign clear aligners.

Invisalign Isn’t Bonded to the Teeth

One of the biggest differences between clear aligners and traditional braces is that the clear trays are not bonded to the teeth. This allows the wearer to take them out whenever needed. Also, it means that patients don’t need to put up with any dietary restrictions that are normally in place during orthodontic treatment. This teeth straightening method uses a series of clear aligners that slowly push the teeth into their new, rightful locations.

Fewer Dental Visits

Because traditional braces use an arch wire to straighten out the teeth, patients have to go to the dental office more often to have this wire routinely tightened. However, with Invisalign, patients switch to a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks. This means fewer routine visits to the dental office than traditional orthodontic treatments require.

Easier to Keep Up with Oral Hygiene

It is much easier to clean your teeth when you aren’t having to work around metal brackets and wires that are adhered to them. Invisalign allows you to remove the aligners so you can clean your teeth easier and more thoroughly. This means that you are less likely to develop oral health issues like tooth decay and periodontal disease.

More Comfortable

There isn’t a single teeth straightening option out there that is completely free from any discomfort. However, Invisalign tends to use less overall pressure when moving your teeth, so this tends to be more comfortable than traditional metal braces. You also won’t need to deal with wires poking at the soft tissues in your mouth.

Fixes Many Alignment Issues

In certain cases, complicated alignment issues need to be corrected with traditional braces, but most of the time, Invisalign can do the trick! Here are just some of the issues the clear aligners can fix:

  • Overcrowding
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

Remember that there are many advantages to Invisalign other than just being invisible. Talk to your dentist to determine whether or not you would make a good candidate for the treatment. You’ll be on a path towards a straighter smile in no time!
